Garden Club hosts Cookie Walk fundraiser
On Nov. 15, the aroma of homemade soup and fresh coffee greeted patrons of the Cookie Walk Luncheon sponsored by the Town and Country Garden Club at the Carmichaels Activity Center.
The Cookie Walk featured over 330 dozen homemade cookies baked by club members. As customers lined up for the cookie walk, each was given an empty box as gloved club members filled the box with cookies designated by the customer.
The array of cookies included: lady locks, small nut and apricot rolls, gingerbread and gingersnaps, kolachy, coconut pecan dainties, orange drop cookies, toffee biscotti, rugelach and homemade fudge. At the end of the cookie line, the box of cookies was weighed and paid for by the pound.
This was the 12th annual Cookie Walk fundraiser to support the club’s Scholarship Fund. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior from one of the five Greene County schools.
Gavin Koratich was selected as the 2015 scholarship fund’s recipient. Koratich, a Jefferson-Morgan student, is attending Washington Jefferson College. This was the 24th scholarship award; the first award was presented in 1991 to Kevin Willis of Carmichaels Area High School.
Koratich and National Honor Society students from CAHS served as volunteers for the Cookie Walk fundraiser.
The quilt raffle featured a queen-size quilt, “Grandma’s Star,” made by club member Marion Walker. A Chinese auction and door prize completed the event.
This event is made possible by the dedicated support of the patrons from our local communities.
