Salvation Army campaign warms both hearts and homes

2 min read

As winter months approach and the days grow bitter cold, many Greene County families and neighbors lack a very basic need — heat in their homes.

The Salvation Army urges the Greene County community to partner with them in blessing neighbors with warmth this upcoming winter season through the Warm Hearts campaign.

The Warm Hearts campaign is a Salvation Army program that provides heating for veterans, senior citizens, disabled persons and families with young children in Greene County. This campaign seeks to aid the community through monetary donations that fund heating bills for veterans, elderly and families.

In 2014, the Warm Hearts Campaign provided electric, water, propane and gas for 437 neighbors in Greene County. In total, $22,103.44 was raised, with more than $7,000 of that money specifically covering heat-related expenses. This year, The Salvation Army aims for greater participation from the community to increase last year’s donations in order to assist more families.

Donations are accepted year round, but consider giving prior to the cold season’s start.

In order to ensure the security of your donation, the Salvation Army will send all monetary gifts directly to heating providers. Donations can be dropped off at 131 West First Street in Waynesburg, made by mail or made online. Checks should be payable to the Salvation Army Warm Hearts Campaign. Please mail checks only, no cash.
