Kinsell leads Mikes past Raiders

2 min read

Carmichaels 4, Waynesburg Central 1 — Carmichaels earned a non-section victory against Class AA Waynesburg Central, 4-1, on Thursday at CONSOL Energy Field in Washington.

The Mikes improved to 3-0 and were able to top the Raiders’ No. 1 pitcher, Hunter Robinson. Robinson allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits in 5 and 2/3 innings of work. He had 11 strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

Carmichaels’ Jacob Kinsell held the Raiders down in allowing just the one run, which was unearned, in seven innings. He gave up five hits while striking out eight and walking four.

Coach Dickie Krause’s team scored a run on Robinson in the first when Matthew Barrish scored on Jacob Wamsley’s triple. The Raiders tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth before the Mikes added another run in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead.

Another triple was key for Carmichaels in the fifth when Joel Spishock tripled and scored when the throw into third went into the crowd. The Mikes took a 4-1 lead at that point, which they would never relinquish.

Robinson had Waynesburg’s only extra-base hit with a double. The Raiders fall to 1-2.

Carmichaels continues its non-section run today when it hosts Albert Gallatin at 4:15 p.m.
