Rohanna slips down Q School leaderboard
Rachel Rohanna slipped down the LPGA and Symetra Tour Q School leaderboard Thursday, moving from a tie for 72nd to tied for 133.
The Waynesburg Central graduate shot 6-over 78 in the second round after opening with a 2-over 74 in the first round.
Mel Reid and Nasa Hataoka share the second-round lead at 11-under 133. The low 75 scores (and ties) after Saturday’s fourth round advance to Sunday’s final round.
Rohanna wasn’t able to stay away from the big number Thursday when she carded at triple bogey-8 on No. 16. She was sitting at 4-over for the tournament before taking the “snowman.”
Rohanna had a couple double bogeys in the first round, so most of the strokes she gave away to par occurred on just three holes.
“Three holes in two days haven’t been (played) well,” said Rohanna. “I’m 7-over on three holes. That killed the score.”
The triple bogey was the result of an awkward lie in a fairway bunker, a lost ball and a 2-putt.
“It’s hard when you’re in the moment and you know that you can pull off that shot. You have to discipline yourself to take the bogey and go to the next hole,” explained Rohanna.
Rohanna had two birdies, five bogeys and 10 pars on the other 17 holes. She played the front nine of the LPGA International Hills course in 1-over 37 and the back in 5-over 41.
“I had really, really stupid bogeys. On No. 1, my 10th hole, I had a stupid bogey,” said Rohanna. “That’s four shots (coupled with the triple bogey) that I could’ve saved.”
Rohanna thought about her round, did some more math, and then added, “That’s five shots that shouldn’t have happened.”
The cut sits at 2-over after the second round, so Rohanna has her work cut out for her over the next two rounds.
“I’m hoping for some putts to fall. It’s so frustrating taking those big numbers,” said Rohanna. “I need a better game plan on some of the holes. My scores are not reflecting how I’m striking the ball or how I’m putting.
“I’m 50 percent done and I haven’t shot myself out of it. (Shooting) 67, 67 obviously would help. I’m not pressing myself to shoot good scores.”
