Yellow Jacket wrestlers finish fifth
Junior Tristan Buxton was 4-0 as the top-seed and cruised to the 125-pound title for Waynesburg in the Ohio Northern University Invitational Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets, despite entering only eight wrestlers, finished fifth as a team.
Sophomore Jake Evans ended 3-1 and lost in the championship at 285. Senior Filippo Crivelli placed third at 141 for the Jackets, sophomore Matt Claxton settled for fourth at 157.
Freshman Dan Verhovsek placed fifth at 165, junior Landon Lohr was 3-2 at 165 and Ryan Shank took fourth in his weight class and freshman Adam Rigney claimed eighth place at 197.
Women’s basketball
Waynesburg 64, Grove City 62 — Waynesburg earned a close win at Grove City. Addy Knetzer led the way for Waynesburg with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
It was her fifth double-double in six games for the 4-2 Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg also improved to 2-0 in PAC games, while Grove City fell to 3-3, 0-2.
Lexie Arkwright led all scorers with 26 points for Grove City.
Haley Delaney and Katie Gehlmann scored 11 each for Waynesburg.
Knetzer scored nine straight points to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game before single foul shot conversions by Delaney and Kassidy O’Keefe proved to be the winning points.
Men’s basketball
Waynesburg 57, Grove City 49: Waynesburg was the only winner on the men’s side of local college basketball on a busy Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets earned their first PAC win with a 57-49 win at Grove City.
Marcus Wallace had a double-double for Waynesburg with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Jon Knab finished with 11 points and Brennan Smith had 10 rebounds.
Cory Huff led Grove City with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Waynesburg is 2-4 overall, 1-1 in PAC games, while Grove City fell to 1-4, 0-2.
