WAYNESBURG — The Greene County Department of Recreation’s winter exercise session kicks off on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. with a free Intro to Exercise class.

Certified instructors will demonstrate each of their class formats for ten minutes allowing participants to learn more, try each format out and discover their favorites.

Exercise classes for the winter session include Body Blast, Country Heat, PiYo, Yoga and Zumba. Individual classes are $5 each or participants may purchase a Hopper Pass that includes 12 classes for only $50. Passes expire at the end of the winter session and can be purchased at the Department of Recreation or the Intro to Exercise class.

A minimum of nine registered and prepaid participants are required to hold each class. Cancellations will be decided two days prior to class day. Drop-ins are welcome, but attendees are encouraged to call and verify the schedule.

All classes will be held at the Greene County Fairgrounds in the upper level of Building #10. Attendees should wear sweat-absorbing clothes and good support shoes and bring water and towels. Mats are required for Yoga and PiYo. Body Blast participants should bring a mat and light weights.

New to the program is Miranda Chapman leading Body Blast. It is the perfect combination of a full-body work out that involves cardio to increase the heart rate and resistance training to sculpt arms, butt and core. All fitness levels are welcome.

COUNTRY HEAT

Country Heat, instructed by Ashley Donaldson, will introduce a high-energy, easy-to-follow, low-impact, country dance-inspired fitness program that fires up the fun with dance to reshape the body, melt off the weight, tone and tighten.

PiYO

PiYo, taught by Meghan Phillips, is a hybrid athletic workout that combines the mind and body practices of Pilates and Yoga as well as the principles of stretch, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement.

YOGA

Our Yoga class is a gentler style of Hatha yoga exercise that is great for beginners and senior citizens. It improves balance and overall health, while increasing flexibility and circulation. Shoes will not be worn during the class. Instructor Virginia Wainwright will teach all yoga sessions.

ZUMBA

Zumba embraces all the fundamental principles of fitness with instructor Missy Brewer. Fun and music motivate the body to efficiently burn calories, tone all muscle groups, incorporates full range of motion and improves the cardiovascular system.

Classes may be canceled due to participation or inclement weather. Announcements will be made on WANB Radio and the Greene County Commissioners Facebook page.
