Laura A. Meighen
Laura A. Meighen, 77, of Waynesburg, died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016, in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Waynesburg following a lengthy illness.
She was born Thursday, December 29, 1938 in Whiteley Twp., a daughter of the late Randolph Staggers and Flora Patterson Staggers.
Mrs. Meighen was a member of the St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Waynesburg. When her health permitted she was active in her union and had served as president as well as being active in other Central Greene activities. At one point in her life she had worked on a cook book. She was the librarian for the first bookmobile in Greene County. She had worked in the resource center for Central Greene School District. She was also the library secretary at the Margaret Bell Miller Middle School in Waynesburg and the Central Greene High School retiring in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, Giles H. Meighen, whom she married on November 24, 1956.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Sarah Beth) Meighen, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and Pat (Jera) Meighen, of Waynesburg; four grandchildren, twins, Benjamin (Jennifer) Meighen and Sarah (Ben) Beason, Gordon Meighen and Morgan Meighen; two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Avery and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased are two sisters, Louise Simpson and Phoebe Eisiminger.
At the request of the family there will be no public visitation or services. A private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, are in charge of arrangements.
