Nancy I. Everly Davis, Ed.D., 80, of Waynesburg, formerly of Bald Hill, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, following recent surgery.

Born November 5, 1935, in Bald Hill, Greene County, she was a daughter of the late Oren O’neil Everly and Catherine Lewellen Everly Frum.

A 1953 graduate of Point Marion High School, she spent her entire career in education. She graduated from California State College with a degree in elementary education and received her master’s degree, administration papers and her doctorate in education from West Virginia University.

She began teaching in Mt. Morris at Perry Township School in 1965 and, through the years, became elementary and secondary school principal, district director of curriculum, assistant superintendent and then superintendent of Central Greene School District, before leaving in 1990. For the next four years, she served as superintendent of Lake-Lehman School District in Dallas. After that, she was a visiting assistant professor at Wilkes University, assisted with the off-campus program at Gannon University, was a graduate education consultant for Waynesburg College and was the coordinator for Greene County Education Center of Westmoreland County Community College, where she was the workforce development coordinator at the time of her death. Throughout her career, she was involved in many professional organizations and programs and received a number of awards and honors.

She was also very active in her community, having served as charter member and past president of United Way of Greene County, member and past president of Waynesburg Rotary Club where she was also a Paul Harris fellow, was a board member and former chairperson of Community Foundation of Greene County, served four terms on Waynesburg Chamber of Commerce and received its Distinguished Service award and was past president of Greene County Chapter of PA Association of Retired School Personnel.

In addition, she supported her husband in his ministry and was an active member over the years in First Baptist Church of Dunkard, Sugar Grove Baptist Church, near Greensboro and finally in First Baptist Church of Waynesburg.

Her husband of 62 years, the Rev. William H. Davis, passed away January 23, 2016.

Also deceased are her son, William Harry Davis Jr.; a sister, Gloria Everly Ruppert Johnson; and two brothers, Peter O’neil Everly and James Keith Everly.

Surviving are several loving nieces and nephews and many friends and colleagues.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Friday in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, 501 Morgantown Street, Point Marion, with the Rev. Dr. Edward Peirce officiating. Interment follows in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
