Local students tour WCCC Advanced Technology Center
Greene County Career and Technology Center students recently toured the Westmoreland County Community College Advanced Technology Center in Mount Pleasant and learned about the college’s advanced manufacturing and industrial technology programs.
The students, William Luckey, Luke Pecjak, Serena Owens, MaryJo Brownlee, Cody Nelson and Walker Smith, are enrolled in the WCCC Academy for High School Students and are taking a college-level AutoCAD class at WCCC-Greene in Waynesburg.
Instructor Larry Frank, who also serves as the coordinator for WCCC-Greene, said, “Giving our Greene County students the opportunity to take high-tech, college level courses like AutoCAD, before they graduate from high school gives them a tremendous advantage.”
“It allows them to earn college credits toward their post-secondary academic goals, ultimately getting them educated, experienced and into the local workforce sooner,”he added.
Students who complete two college courses and earn articulated credit are eligible to earn the Industrial Technology certificate from WCCC when they graduate from high school.
The students particularly enjoyed the machine technology and welding program areas and had an opportunity to test out their welding skills on the virtual welder.
Students are currently attending Waynesburg Central, Jefferson Morgan, Carmichaels and Mapletown high schools.
