Waynesburg softball sweeps doubleheader
The Waynesburg softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Franciscan Wednesday afternoon, 9-4 and 9-3.
Franciscan scored two runs in the top of the first inning of the opening game, but the Yellow Jackets stormed back with seven runs over the next four innings.
Jessica Dorazio and Sabrina Stankus both had two hits in the win, while Katey Potopenko, Alex Lawrence and Carmichaels graduate Cameron Grimas all doubled.
Cat Allstatt started and pitched the first four innings for the win, allowing two earned runs on three hits with one walk.
Waynesburg (4-18)started strong in the nightcap with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, adding three more in the second for a comfortable lead.
Keri Renzler pounded out three hits, drove in four runs and scored two in the victory. Mackenzie Smith had a pair of singles and Dorazio doubled.
Stephanie Kotomski went the first four innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Franciscan slides to 0-14.
College baseball
Pitt-Greensburg 10, Waynesburg 1 — The visiting Bobcats scored three runs in the first two innings for all the offense they needed for a non-conference road victory.
Josh Hausler had two singles for the Yellow Jackets (1-8), who mustered only six hits in the nine inning game.
Cameron Bernhardt and Tyler Reis doubled for Waynesburg.
Women’s lacrosse
Muskingum 18, Waynesburg 8 — The Yellow Jackets trailed 9-3 at halftime and couldn’t rally in a loss to visiting Muskingum.
Holly Bachman scored three goals for Waynesburg (0-1). Abbie Miller, Shannon Morgan, Morgan Vesco, Danielle Beckford and Brandi Rohal all netted one goal.
Paige Watterman scored four goals for Muskingum.
