Mikes hold off Brownsville for 8-6 win
Carmichaels led 7-4 after three innings and the pitching combination of Matthew Barrish and Jacob Kinsell made the lead stand Wednesday afternoon for an 8-6 non-section win against visiting Brownsville.
The Falcons scored four runs in the first two innings for the early lead, but the Mikes countered with four in the bottom of the second and three more in the third.
Nick Mundell’s two-out, two-run single was the key hit in the bottom of the second and Joel Spishock’s two-run single was the big hit in the third.
The Mikes added a solo run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Falcons battled back with two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Barrish came on in relief and pitch 3.1 innings for the win. He struck out one and walked one. Kinsell pitched the seventh for the save, striking out the side.
Spishock had a strong game for the Mikes with three singles, two runs scored and two RBI. Reed Long and Jacob Wamsley both had a pair of singles.
Cory Lent stroked four singles for the Falcons.
Carmichaels is scheduled to host Waynesburg Central today at 4:30 p.m. at CONSOL Energy Park.
