Fayette wins eighth PSUAC crown
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus won its eighth consecutive PSUAC championship with a 3-0 sweep over Penn State Mont Alto at Rec Hall on the University Park campus of Penn State on Nov. 2.
The Lady Roaring Lions won by set scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16 to improve to 23-4 on the season and 16-0 against PSUAC competition. Mont Alto fell to 19-3 and 12-3.
Carmichaels graduate Emma Lewis and Siteri Tale led the local team with 10 kills each and Lewis also shared the team lead in digs with Caitlyn Williams at 14 each. Janelle Cooper added 11 digs. Tori Helmantoler sparked the floor game with 29 assists.
With the win, the Eberly Campus also grabbed the PSUAC’s automatic berth into the USCAA National Championship Tournament at Virginia Beach. The event will take place Nov. 9 through 12 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Fayette entered the PSUAC tournament ranked ninth nationally by the USCAA.
The Lady Roaring Lions reached the PSUAC final by defeating Penn State Lehigh Valley in the semifinals, 3-0, on Nov. 1. The set scores were 25-9, 27-25, 25-20.
Lewis totaled nine kills, 11 digs and two service aces against Lehigh. Her kill in the first game set Fayette up for the winning point in the first set and they immediately cashed in.
Lehigh had a chance to take the second set. It held a 25-24 advantage but the Lady Roaring Lions fought off the set point thanks to another kill by Lewis.
Fayette won the next two points to go up 2-0 before completing the sweep.
