Rohanna has rough time on back nine
Robert Rohanna was sitting at 2-under when he made the turn at Las Praderas de Lujan Golf & Country Club Thursday, but faltered on the back nine to slip to 4-over 76 in the opening round of the Argentina Classic presented by NEC.
“Yeah, pretty rough out there,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “The wind was blowing really hard today and I just didn’t hit it well of the tee. I played from the trees the whole back nine and that’s never a good thing.”
That wasn’t the case on his first nine holes, starting on No. 10 with a birdie. He followed with another birdie to go 2-under after two holes.
The Waynesburg Central graduate then parred out his front nine to go out in 34.
“Yeah, I actually played pretty good on the first nine. I almost birdied 5 of the first 7 and had solid chances on all the holes,” said Rohanna.
Things started poorly after he made the turn and Rohanna wasn’t able to recover. He opened with back-to-back bogeys to go slide back to even for the round.
Back-to-back pars gave way to a double bogey-6 and bogey. He closed his back nine with two pars and another bogey for a 6-over 42.
“I was struggling all day off the tee, though. I was hitting straight through the doglegs and over drawing the left hole doglegs,” said Rohanna. “I just didn’t play well and didn’t have any control off the tees. The wind was like 10-20 out there all day, too.”
Rohanna generally makes up ground on par-5s, but played the four at even-par.
“I really just played the par-5s bad today,” added Rohanna.
The projected cut for the low 55 scores (and ties) is at even par, so Rohanna has his work cut out for him in today’s second round.
“But, I’m off early tomorrow and maybe I can get something going early with the good greens,” said Rohanna.
Argentina’s Sergio Rohlmann leads after the first round after shooting an 8-under 64.
