Waynesburg women hold on for 70-61 win

The Waynesburg women’s basketball team built a 15-point halftime lead Tuesday night, and then held off a second-half rally by visiting Frostburg (Md.) State for a 70-61 non-conference victory.

The Yellow Jackets led 22-13 after the first quarter and 40-25 at halftime, but Frostburg State drew closer with a 19-14 advantage in the third quarter.

The Lady Bobcats outscored Waynesburg in the fourth quarter, 17-16.

Addy Knetzer led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Monica Starre and Katie Gehlmann both scored 12 points, and Mackenna Drazich added 10.

Beth-Center’s Anna Bartman scored three points and grabbed a defensive rebound.

The Lady Bobcats’ Kirsten Rayner scored a game-high 18 points. Alexis Welch finished with 11 points and Sharyce Warren added 10.
