Sheriff’s office apprehends wanted suspect in Greene County
WAYNESBURG — Acting on a tip, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a wanted suspect from Bedford County on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at a residence in New Freeport.
Corey J. Clingerman, 22, of Everett Borough was charged by state police in Bedford with multiple charges, the most serious offense being rape of a child.
Warrants had been issued for Clingerman’s arrest in two separate cases, and he was taken into custody on those warrants. Deputies took him to the Greene County prison to await extradition.
“Once we received this tip, we acted swiftly to see this individual was apprehended and was no longer on the streets in Greene County,” said Sheriff Brian Tennant of the incident. “Also, we thank the person responsible for the anonymous tip that led to the apprehension.”
According to court records, following his apprehension Clingerman was extradited by state police to Bedford County on Nov. 15 and arrested on Nov. 17 on three felony counts of rape of a child, two felony counts each of corruption of minors (defendant age 18 or above) and unlawful contact with a minor (sexual offenses), one felony count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse (forcible compulsion), four misdemeanor counts of indecent assault with a person less than 14 years old, and one misdemeanor count of indecent assault (without consent of others).
The charges, which stem from two separate incidents that occurred in October, were filed before Magisterial District Judge Kathy Calhoun of Bedford County, according to court records.
Following arraignment, Clingerman was placed in Bedford County Jail in lieu of $150,000 straight bond; his preliminary hearing was scheduled to be held before Calhoun on Nov. 23, according to court records.
The Greene County Messenger was unable to obtain detailed information regarding the criminal incidents and updated results of the preliminary hearing by press time.
