Carmichaels selects Faddis, Christopher
You don’t have to bother telling Jonathan Christopher and Morgan Faddis how to spell the word “team.”
Both of these outstanding Carmichaels scholar/athletes know, quite well in fact, that there is no “I” in “team.”
Christopher switched from wide receiver to quarterback on the Carmichaels football team. Faddis will remain a right side hitter on the volleyball team, but can play anywhere on the softball field her team needs her to play.
Both Faddis and her 3.5 GPA and Christopher with his 3.6 GPA will dash off to college at year’s end, Faddis to study one of two medical fields and Christopher computer engineering.
Faddis and Christopher also represent their school in the Centennial Chevrolet Scholar/Athlete Spotlight program. Faddis, daughter of Prudence and David Faddis of Rices Landing, has a younger brother, Mason, who is a freshman at Carmichaels. Christopher, son of Tammy Christopher of Carmichaels and Robert Bush, has one sister, 25-year-old Katrina.
“I am between pediatric nursing and radiology as majors,” Faddis said. “I’m still kind of looking at which schools are best for those majors. Athletics could play a role in where I go. I like both sports equally. I think I may be able to play softball in college because I’m not really that tall (to play volleyball).”
It is early, but California (Pa.) University, Robert Morris and LaRoche are among her choices.
“I am undecided on where I am going to go, but I want to study computer hardware and software engineering,” Christopher said. “I do plan on playing football in college, so that could determine where I go. I am considering W&J, Waynesburg and Cal U. Plus I am considering Youngstown State. I’m looking to play wide receiver in college.”
Actually, that would be a back-to-the-future move for Christopher.
“I am the quarterback this year on offense and I play cornerback defensively,” he said. “Last year I was a wide receiver. Our previous quarterback had to move away and our coach wanted someone who is athletic and he told me he wants me to be at quarterback and he wants me to run the show. He has trust in me. He thought it would help the team and I agree with him.”
Faddis plays volleyball and softball at Carmichaels and is a cheerleader when she is not playing.
“I am a right side and have played volleyball for a long time. In softball, I play centerfield, but I can go wherever they need me.”
That’s why she named her family and her coaches as having the greatest influence on her as an athlete.
“My family and my coaches influence me every day because they always push me to work my hardest.”
