Library system offering unique tutoring program
WAYNESBURG — The Greene County Library System will be providing training sessions on its newest database, Brainfuse, beginning Oct. 4 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Eva K. Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg.
The second session will be held at Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 5.
Brainfuse offers live, one-on-one tutoring; a writing lab; diagnostic tests that allow for customized study plans, lessons, and live tutoring; test preparation for GED, SAT, ACT, and ASVAB; information for students looking to apply for college, including the steps needed to take; and career resources such as resume writing help.
Brainfuse can be used at any public library in Greene County or anywhere with Internet access. Tutoring is available from 2 to 11 p.m. daily, excluding certain holidays. All tutors are based in the United States and have gone through the clearance process.
The cost of a private tutor can cost around $20 per hour. If a student needs tutoring in one subject and requires three hours of tutoring per week in one school year (36 weeks), parents would be paying over $2,000.
Through Brainfuse, parents can have multiple children being tutored in multiple subjects, for unlimited hours, at no additional cost to them. The only requirement is a library card, in good standing, from a Greene County library.
Brainfuse was made possible through a grant from the EQT Community Foundation. The grant paid for the database, promotional materials, and training sessions at each public library in Greene County. Training is open to teachers, parents and the public.
