Jayhawks put up six in 5th inning to down Maples, 11-1

Jeannette scored six in the fifth inning for a 11-1 Section 2-A baseball victory over the Maples on Monday at Jeannette.

The Jayhawks (2-0, 3-1) held a 5-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning before adding six runs to put the 10-run Mercy Rule into effect.

Blaze Tran picked up the win on the mound in five innings of work. He allowed one run on the three hits while striking out nine and walking one.

Teammates Tre Cunningham, Brent Billick and Michael Pompei each had a double.

The Maples’ Dylan Rush had his team’s lone extra-base hit.

Brian Bogden pitched two innings in taking the loss on the mound for Mapletown (1-2, 2-4).

The Maples host Monessen on Wednesday in a Section 2-A battle.
