Rohanna cards 4-over in opening round
Rachel Rohanna bogeyed three of the final four holes in Friday’s opening round of the Sara Bay Classic, closing the first day with a 4-over 76.
The Waynesburg Central graduate carded six bogeys and two birdies to sit in tie for 43rd place.
She had back-to-back bogeys on her fourth and fifth holes, but scored a birdie on No. 8 to go out in 1-over 37.
Rohanna was settled in after making the turn with three straight pars, but dropped another stroke to par with a bogey on No. 13. She recovered with a birdie on the next hole, only to lose three strokes to par over the final four holes.
Emily Penttili and Paulo Moreno share the lead after the first round at 2-under 70.
“No, there are no bad bogeys out there. It’s ore like, whew, walked away with just a bogey,” Rohanna said with a laugh. “The course is just plain hard. I had three 3-putts, but those were due more to me not hitting the ball close enough. The last hole was probably my one ‘bad bogey.’ I just hit a poor third shot and poor chip shot.”
Rohanna hit 11-of-14 fairways and 13-of-18 greens in regulation. She needed 33 putts to complete her round.
The projected cutline is at 5-over and Rohanna not only believes that is attainable, but that she can move up the leaderboard.
“Anything can happen on that course,” said Rohanna. “I’m still looking for a top-5 finish. Maybe even a win if I can get lucky and get some to fall tomorrow.”
Rohanna tees off the back nine at 8:29 a.m. in today’s second round.
