Lillian Dell Miller Marling
Lillian Dell Miller Marling, 99 1/4, of New Freeport, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, with family by her side.
She meant the world to her family and her spirit is carried on by all who knew and loved her.
Born May 1, 1918, in Deep Valley, the only daughter of the late Lloyd P. and Nell Anderson Miller.
In 1942, she took a train from Cameron, West Virginia, to Yuma, Arizona, to marry the love of her life, James “Jim” Marling, who passed away in 2007. The couple spent 65 wonderful years together.
Before she married, she was employed at Cameron Pottery. In 1961, she and her husband operated Marling’s Store in Garrison, until retiring in 1981.
Mrs. Marling attended church and was a Sunday school teacher at the former Grandview Methodist Church in Garrison. Her family was blessed to learn many valuable lessons from her, among them to be resourceful and nurturing. She was very crafty and loved to crochet, quilt by hand, garden and bake. At one time, she hand sewed aprons for everyone in town. She monogrammed the names on the FFA jackets for the local boys as well, all by hand. She was known for her award-winning pies, having the best pie crust around. The only time she sat down was to sew or peel potatoes.
Her smile was infectious, her winks and witty remarks were never in short supply. She was very soft spoken and above all, she was a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was called “Grandma Lillian” by great-grandsons Colton and Bryce.
Mrs. Marling’s last few months were made easier with the care she received from her granddaughter, Michelle Anderson, great-grandsons, Amedisys Hospice and dear friends Mary Jennewine, Sandy Huffman and the Scott Miller family.
Surviving are son J. B. (Sandra) Marling of New Freeport; granddaughter Michelle (Larry) Anderson of Holbrook; and two great grandsons, Colton and Bryce Anderson.
In addition to her parents and husband, deceased are a daughter, Jenny Lynn Marling in 2004, and six brothers, Howard, Forrest, Grant, Karroll, Kay and Ernest.
She was the last surviving member of her siblings.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 17, in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC., 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, with Pastor Jason Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township.
