Rohanna shoots 73 in first round
Rachel Rohanna closed with two bogeys in her final four holes to finish the opening round of the Cambia Portland Classic presented by JTBC with a 1-over 73.
The Waynesburg Central graduate is tied in 93th place entering Friday’s second round with the anticipated cut at even-par or better.
In Gee Chun leads after the first round at 6-under 66.
Rohanna opened the first round with 14 consecutive pars before giving up a stroke to par with a bogey-5 on her 15th hole. She quickly regained the stroke with a birdie-2 on the next hole, but then closed out the back nine with a bogey on No. 18.
“I don’t know. I couldn’t get anything to fall, but wasn’t really hitting it close, either,” Rohanna responded when asked about the lack of birdies in her round, although she had chances. “I had a 3-putt par on a par-5, and maybe two or three inside of 12 feet. I had lots of 18- to 20-footers.”
Rohanna hit 6-of-14 fairways and 13-of-18 greens in regulation. She needed 32 putts to complete her round and averaged just over 273 yards on her drives.
Although she didn’t score as she had hoped, Rohanna said she’ll come back ready to do so in the second round.
“I’m just gonna keep playing the way I’ve been playing all year. Some are bound to fall,” added Rohanna.
