The Wolf Administration has announced that in in the southwest region of the state, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has paved 262 miles of roadway, and has also completed or put out contracts to preserve, repair, and replace more than 200 bridges.

The work completed in Greene, Fayette, Washington, Allegheny, Beaver, Lawrence and Westmoreland counties is part of the roughly 2,100 roadway miles the department had paved through the end of October.

“With investments of over $375 million in Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence counties in 2017, our region is making huge strides in our bridge conditions and regional mobility,” said District 11 Executive Cheryl Moon-Sirianni, in a release recently issued by PennDOT. “The department is proud to be delivering significant infrastructure improvements for the Pittsburgh region.”

In the department’s four-county, Uniontown-based District 12 region, contracts were put out for 36 state-owned bridges, four locally owned bridges and department forces preserved, replaced or repaired 13 bridges. More than 110 miles of paving was completed, including:

“Under the leadership of the governor and our transportation secretary, the department continues to forge ahead with our commitment to improving our vital road and bridge transportation assets in our region,” Joe Szczur, district executive for Greene, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties said in the release. “Over 10 years we have accomplished a lot – our major modernization program on Interstate 70 alone includes 20 contracts and planned improvements worth $1 billion, over 500 bridges have been replaced and our department forces have replaced 90 more. And we have much more planned to do.”
