Lady Maples drop Section 2-A game to Geibel Catholic
Geibel Catholic came out strong in the first quarter and rode its momentum in a 55-36 Section 2-A girls basketball victory over Mapletown on Monday at Geibel Catholic Junior/Senior High School.
The Lady Gators (1-0, 4-4) held a 15-4 lead after the first and led, 30-13, at halftime. Geibel increased its lead over the Lady Maples (0-1, 3-7) to 46-25 after three.
The Lady Maples outscored the Lady Gators, 11-9, in the fourth.
Gillian Yourish led all scorers with 22 points for Geibel. Teammate Grace Nowicki put in 16 and the Lady Gators’ Gabby Yourish added 13.
Mapletown’s Kayla Smith led her team in scoring with 13 points. She also added 12 rebounds for a double-double. Teammate Kelsi Smith pulled down 10 rebounds. The Lady Maples’ Hannah Dingle scored 11.
Mapletown returns to action on Thursday with a section game against West Greene at home. The game starts at 7 p.m.
Geibel returns to section action on Thursday when it travels to Avella for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
