CRAFT CLASSES – The county Department of Recreation will hold the following upcoming craft classes at the county fairgrounds: Jan. 22, Snowman Mason Jar Candle Holder for ages 9 and up at 2 p.m. with instructor Katy Misechok (cost is $20); Jan. 29, Wintery Heart Wreath (adult class) at 2 p.m. with instructor Ashlee Granstrand (cost is $35); and Feb. 12, Valentine Heart String Art (Mommy & Me class) at 2 p.m. with instructor Katy Misechok (cost is $20). GEOCACHING EVENT – The “Cache Me if You Can” geocaching event will be held through Dec. 1. The event involves eight recreation sites across Greene County. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunt game using GPS software. For more info, call the Department of Recreation at 724-852-5323.
CHILI COOK-OFF – The “Cabin Fever Chili Cook-off” will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers purchase a wristband at any participating business for $5, which enables them to visit all participating businesses in downtown Waynesburg and sample a different chili at each location. Shoppers vote for their favorite chili after tasting each recipe.
NEW YORK TRIP – Nathanael Greene CDC is sponsoring their annual trip to New York City on May 4-7. This year, attendees will be able to enjoy three days in the Big Apple and will stay at the Manhattan at Times Square and enjoy all the attractions that make this city special. Attendees will be on their own to explore, shop or take in a show. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA is looking for volunteers willing to help the agency. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact the Greene County office at 724-852-2373. The next volunteer training class will be starting in the spring. Deadline for applications is March 11. DVSSP also provides training for groups and businesses. To schedule a training, call 724-852-2373. DVSSP also offers safe shelter and support services that are free and confidential to those who are victims of domestic violence and are in need of assistance.

DRIVERS NEEDED – The Veterans Affairs Office of Greene County is looking for part-time drivers for the van that transports the veterans to the Pittsburgh VAMC hospitals. The van travels four days a week, Mondays thru Thursdays, except on county holidays. You may be working only one or two days a week. Must not have following medical problems: diabetes, high blood pressure and hearing problems; and will need a background check with DUI checks. For more info, contact the veterans
LIBRARY EVENT – The Eva K. Bowlby Library in Waynesburg is presenting “Color Outside the Lines,” a program for adults who may be interested in the latest craze of adult coloring books. Coloring books are not just for children. The process of coloring has been shown to be stress-reducing, calm-inducing and joy-producing, for people of all ages. The library will provide coloring sheets and supplies to get you started. Join the library weekly every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library.
CRAFT NIGHTS – The Bowlby Library’s monthly Adult Craft Night is held on the first Thursday of each month and the second Saturday each month. Seating is limited; call the library at 724-627-9776 to sign up or stop by the circulation desk.
WEIGHT SUPPORT – T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a weight management support group that meets every Saturday at the Bowlby Library from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. New members are always welcome.
FREE TUTORING – The Bowlby Library offers a free online tutoring database called Brainfuse. Brainfuse offers a comprehensive suite of online academic services designed to support many learning needs and styles. One-on-one online tutoring is available daily between 2 and 11 p.m. Brainfuse also offers a writing lab, study guides and skill building resources that are available 24/7.
