Vernon Slater “Joe” Anderson Sr.
Vernon Slater “Joe” Anderson, Sr., age 71, of Mt. Morris, died Sunday, January 22, 2017 in his home.
He was born January 21, 1946 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Clarence Vernon Anderson and Frances Gertrude Rutan Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a U. S. Army veteran and had served in Vietnam and Korea. He had worked as a security guard at Robena Mine and as a taxi driver for Central Cab.
Mr. Anderson resided most of his life in Greene County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren.
Surviving are three daughters, Amanda Stoneking (Daniel) of Carmichaels, Trudy Jacobs (Scott ) of Johnstown, and Susan; three sons, Jason Morris (Autumn Jacobs) of Wind Ridge, John Rollison of Morgantown, West Virginia and Vernon Anderson Jr. (Rose) of Carmichaels; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Anderson of the state of Washington and Sylvester “Doug” Anderson (Lois) of Texas; five sisters, Shirley Dailey of Mt. Morris, Sue Morris, Jean, Viola Fordyce, and Luella Redman all of Waynesburg and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Opal Henderson, Lucille Fox and Betty Anderson; two brothers, Larry “Jack” Anderson and Duane Anderson and two daughters, Alice and Michelle.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High St., Waynesburg, where services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2017, followed by burial in Greene County Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post 330 and the U. S. Army.
