Conservation District to hold free rain barrel workshops
WAYNESBURG — The Greene County Conservation District, in cooperation with Waynesburg Borough, will hold free rain barrel workshops in Waynesburg at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13, and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15.
Rain barrels collect and store water that falls on roofs to be used for household activities like watering gardens. By using rain barrels, property owners save money on their water bill and reduce the effect of storm water runoff on our streams and rivers.
Participants in the workshop will construct their own rain barrel from materials provided by the Conservation District.
In addition, the organization will also discuss other good practices that property owners can implement alongside their new rain barrel to reduce runoff, erosion and water pollution.
The free workshops are open to all Greene County residents.
Registration is required and space is limited. To register, call the Conservation District at 724-852-5278, or email jzinn@co.greene.pa.us.
Financial and other support for this project is provided by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD) through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
