Rohanna loses another stroke to par
Rachel Rohanna was unable to maintain the momentum of a strong start Saturday, slipping to her second consecutive 73 in the third round of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic.
The Waynesburg Central graduate sits in a tie for 70th place at 3-under 213.
Katherine Kirk remained in first place after the third round with a 3-day total of 20-under 196.
Rohanna started on the back nine and quickly opened the third round with a birdie. She birdied Nos. 13 and 15 to go to 3-under for the round and 7-under for the tournament.
The birdie run came to a close with a bogey on No. 16, her seventh hole. Then she closed her front nine with a double bogey to go out in even-par 36.
“I was just a poor second shot, on in three and 3-putted,” Rohanna said how the double bogey played out.
Rohanna had a birdie and two bogeys on her back nine to go out in 1-over 37.
Rohanna was rolling in putts in the first round, but has been unable to do so in the past two rounds. She even went to a new putter in the third round.
“The putter just can’t get going,” explained Rohanna. “I switched to the Odyssey today. I’ll stick with it tomorrow. The greens just seem very inconsistent with the speeds.”
Rohanna felt she played better than her score indicated.
“I didn’t hit the ball as well today, but good enough to shoot 4-under,” said Rohanna. “A 73 was about the highest I could’ve shot today. I’m playing too well to be at just 3-under.”
“But, if I cut down the 3-putts and make some 10-footers, I’ll more up!,” added Rohanna.
