Mrs. Theresa Lynn Chitwood, age 61, of Adairsville, Georgia, passed away, surrounded by her husband and family at home, after a short illness, on Monday, July 10, 2017.

Mrs. Chitwood was born on June 25, 1956 in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Cora Louise Thomas Patterson and William Edward “Bill” Patterson.

After graduating from West Greene High School in Rogersville, Theresa joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving our country for four years. She also represented the United States as a member of the US Olympic Volley Ball Team In 1976 and 1977.

After the military, the remainder of her life was spent in Georgia, where she raised her four children.

She married the love of her life, Harry Chitwood, in 2007, and together they found their church family at Skyline Baptist Church in Adairsville. In years past, Theresa was employed as manager of Shoney’s in Calhoun, and worked for several years at H&R Block as a Tax Preparer. She owned and managed two restaurants in Adairsville with her husband Harry, and most recently was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Fifth Avenue Nursing Home in Rome.

Theresa loved life and loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Theresa could do anything she set her mind to do. Most importantly she did it with care and consideration of others. Whatever was put before her, she overcame it with her kind demeanor and a smile. She always, always, smiled.

Mrs. Theresa Chitwood is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, Mr. Harry Chitwood; her sons, Jason Rogers, Jebediah Rogers, and Jesse Rogers, all of Adairsville; her daughter, Jennifer Rogers, (Jason Phair), of Plymouth, Massachusetts; two step-sons, Jake Chitwood and Rian Chitwood, both of Adairsville; five grandchildren, Kevin Phair, Noah Yates, Reagan Chitwood, Jordan Chitwood, and Jacob Chitwood; two brothers, William E. “Bill” Patterson II (Joanna), of Mt. Morris and Thomas “Tom” Patterson (Renee), of Princeton, Kentucky; four sisters, Patricia Krupa (Dennis), of Levittown, Pennsylvania, Barbara Weaver (Robert), of Canton, Ohio, Charlotte McClellan (Gregory), of Claysville, Pennsylvania and Penny Duncan (Gary), of Brentwood, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to her parents are an infant sister, Billie Jean Patterson, a brother, Gregory A. Patterson and a nephew, William E. Patterson III.

A special Thank You to the doctors, nurses, CNA’s and staff at Redmond Regional Medical Center emergency room, ICU, and neurology, 4th floor, for their sincere caring, compassion and excellent care. Also, a special thank you to the angels with Amedisys Hospice of Dalton for their exceptional care.

The Chitwood family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Services to honor the life of Mrs. Theresa Chitwood will be held Thursday, July 13th at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor John Dorsey officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Chuck Cowart, Daniel Tucker, Daniel Brown, T.J. Tucker, Caleb Warren, and John Dorsey, Jr. Funeral services for Mrs. Teresa Lynn Chitwood are under the care and direction of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun, Georgia.
