WIND RIDGE — The 2017 Miss Jacktown Fair Queen and Miss Jacktown Fair Princess Pageants will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 16, in the Commercial Hall at the Jacktown Fairgrounds.

This year two queen contestants are competing for the title of Miss Jacktown Fair. The competition consists of four components: An essay of 300 words or less on “What The Jacktown Fair Means to My Community”; a seven-minute interview session with the three judges; modeling an evening gown; and giving a three-to-five-minute speech on “Why You Should Come to The Jacktown Fair.”

The new queen will be crowned by the 2016 Fair Queen Laura Wise Tuesday evening July 18 at the upper grandstand following the Jacktown Fair Parade.

The queen contestants are:

n Haley Pierson, 18, daughter of Julie Whipkey and Johnny Pierson. Haley, a recent graduate of West Greene High School, participates in 4-H and FFA. She enjoys fishing, hunting, riding horses, riding ATVs, working on the family farm and hanging out with friends. Haley is currently employed at Tractor Supply.

n Courtney Ross, 16, daughter of Steven and Brandie Ross of Aleppo. At West Greene High School, Courtney is a member of the high school softball team, volleyball team, rifle team, The National Honor Society, ski club, science club, and WG FFA chapter. Courtney spends her time participating in Greene County 4-H clubs, singing at various events, hunting, camping with her family and working on the family farm. She raises cattle, pigs, lambs and rabbits.

The new queen will be crowned by Laura Wise, 19, the reigning 2016 Jacktown Fair Queen. She is the daughter of Mary Ellen and Andy Wise of Graysville. Laura is a 2016 graduate of West Greene High School and attends Slippery Rock University majoring in middle level education mathematics. At West Greene, she received the 2016 Grange scholarship as well as other scholarships. She participated in volleyball, track, powder puff football, varsity football, film assistant, science club, art club, drama club, chorus, school publications and was a 2013 prom attendant.

The 2017 Miss Jacktown Fair Princess Pageant has five contestants. As part of the princess competition each contestant has to submit a poster advertising a fair event, model a sundress with a short introduction, and have a five-minute interview session with the three-person judge panel. The new princess will be crowned Sunday evening by the 2016 Jacktown Fair Princess Payton Gilbert at the end of the pageant.

The princess contestants are:

n BreAnna McDiffitt, 8, daughter of Sonny and Shirley McDiffitt of New Freeport. BreAnna is a member of the West Greene girls basketball team, the 2015 New Freeport baseball team and 2017 Fall Softball Travel Team. BreAnna was crowned the 2012 Little Miss Maple Leaf Queen and was Autumns Fall Beauties “Most Beautiful” in 2012. She enjoys singing, dancing, art, painting, drawing, collecting shells, riding horses, reading, swimming, fishing and bowling.

n Mia Rhome, 10, daughter of Adam Rhome and Katrina Beck of Wind Ridge. Mia enjoys volunteering at the local humane society, rollerblading, ice skating, baking, reading and all animals.

n Kendra Tharp, 9, daughter of Natasha and Cory Tharp of Wind Ridge. Kendra is a member of the Wind Ridge baseball team, is a West Greene Little League cheerleader, dances at In-motion dance and fitness center and takes classes at Buffington Martial Arts. Kendra spends her time volunteering at Greene County Humane Society and enjoys animals, riding four-wheelers and playing ball.

n Marissa Tharp, 10, daughter of Natasha and Cory Tharp of Wind Ridge. Marissa is a member of the Wind Ridge baseball team, West Greene 10 and under softball team, dances at In-motion dance and fitness, is a West Greene Little League cheerleader, and takes classes at Buffington Martial Art. She was crowned the 2015 Miss Firecracker and enjoys riding four-wheelers, horses and swimming.

n Cameron Wendell, 8, daughter of Chad and Cortney Wendell of Holbrook. Cameron is a member of the Lamb club, softball team and participates in mixed martial arts. She loves playing with her two foxes, fishing, riding her new side-by-side and being with friends and family.

The new Jacktown Fair Princess will be crowned by Payton Gilbert, 9, the current Jacktown Fair Princess. She is the daughter of Robby and Jennifer Gilbert of New Freeport and a fourth-grader at the West Greene Elementary Center. She dances at Moschettas in Waynesburg where she takes jazz, acro and hip hop. She is a cheerleader for the West Greene Little League and a member of the 10U Rogersville softball team. She enjoys hunting, fishing, and trapping with her dad. She also enjoys playing the guitar and singing.
