PennDOT announces updates on bridge projects
WAYNESBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently announced the following updates for three ongoing bridge projects in Greene County.
Route 18 (Golden Oaks Road) bridge, Center Township
The Route 18 (Golden Oaks Road) bridge, which spans House Run in Center Township that has been under construction as part of PennDOT’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, is complete and open to traffic.
Replacement of the bridge allows PennDOT to remove it from Greene County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
The bridge reopened to traffic on Wednesday, July 12. Replacement work was performed by Walsh II Construction of Pittsburgh.
The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
This bridge is referred to as JV-504 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.

Mapletown Road (Route 2016) Bridge, Monongahela Township
Construction for the Mapletown Road (Route 2016) bridge, which spans Whiteley Creek in Monongahela Township, had previously been postponed, but due to accelerated site preparation, work is scheduled to begin during the week of July 17 and be completed in late October.
During construction, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Old Hunting Hills Road (Route 2029), Dairy Road (Route 2014) and Route 88 (South Eighty Eight Road).
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
Day Road (SR 3001) bridge, Richhill Township
PennDOT District 12 is advising motorists of an emergency closure of a bridge on Day Road (Route 3001) over a creek in Richhill Township, at the Greene / West Washington county line. This is near Majorsville Road.
Bridge inspection crews are determining the time frame of the closure.
