Rohanna can’t keep momentum going

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

Rachel Rohanna came out of the gate firing in Thursday’s opening round of the Manulife LPGA Classic, but was unable to maintain the momentum and finished 2-over 74.

The Waynesburg Central grad is tied in 97th place with the projected cut line at even par.

Suzann Pettersen and Mi Hyang Lee are tied for the first-round lead at 8-under 64.

Rohanna came out the gate with three birdies in the first four holes. However, the birdies dried up three bogeys on the final four holes on her front nine to go out in even-par 36.

She made the turn with back-to-back bogeys. Rohanna had a bogey-par-birdie finish to come back in 2-over 38.

“They started flying back, just ran out of holes!,” Rohanna said jokingly about her birdie run drying up. “I just hit a few bad shots and couldn’t get up and down, just typical bogeys.”

Rohanna hit 10-of-14 fairways and 11-of-18 greens in regulation. Her average driving distance was 280½ yards. She needed 33 putts to finish her round.

She tees off No. 1 at 7:48 a.m. today for the second round.
