Greene County coroner to seek reelection
Greene County’s coroner will seek a sixth full four-year term in that position in the May primary.
Gregory P. Rohanna of Jefferson, a Democrat, will make another re-election bid, having served as coroner since 1994 and previously filling the role of chief deputy coroner dating back to 1983.
“We’ve done an excellent job in scene investigation,” Rohanna said.
Rohanna said his office is eyeing the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s implementation of an Electronic Death Registration System to report death events in Pennsylvania. The system is a web-based application designed to enhance communication between funeral directors, local registrars, coroners and certifying health care providers as they work together to register deaths online, according to the state Department of Health’s website.
“Every death is investigated differently,” Rohanna said.
Rohanna grew up in Waynesburg and attended West Virginia University and the former Waynesburg College before going to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. A graduate of the Pennsylvania State Coroner’s Certification Course, Rohanna said he has maintained the statutory requirement of his continuing educational credits each year.
Rohanna is a licensed funeral director and supervisor of Behm Funeral Homes, Inc. in Jefferson. He is a member of the Pennsylvania State Coroner’s Association, serving as the association’s secretary/treasurer. He has served as an officer and president of both the Southwestern Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and the Pennsylvania State Funeral Directors Association.
“We’re doing the best job we can,” Rohanna said, adding that he, his chief deputy and his part-time deputy are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to death notifications.
The primary election will take place on May 16.
