Rohanna makes cut in opening Symetra event
Rachel Rohanna is back in the swing of things as the Waynesburg Central graduate made the cut Saturday in the opening Symetra Tour event of the season.
Rohanna shot an even-par 72 in the second round of Florida Natural’s Charity Classic, moving up from 66th place into a tie for 38th with a two-round score of 3-over 147.
Olivia Jordan-Higgins holds the second-round lead at 8-under 136.
Rohanna had a tough finish in Friday’s first round, closing with two bogeys and a double bogey to play her back nine in 4-over 40 after shooting 1-under 35 in her front nine.
She had a steadier second round with a bogey and birdie on both the front and back to play each side in even-par 36.
“Two birds, two bogeys,” said Rohanna. “The wind was pretty steady all day, but then picked up to about 15-20 mph with 25 mph gusts on the last five holes.”
Rohanna hit 12-of-18 greens in the first round and 15-of-18 in the second. She found 7-of-13 fairways in the first round and improved to 11-of-13 on Saturday. She needed 33 putts in both rounds.
“The greens here are extremely tough to read and are very fast, but overall I’m putting well with the exception of two 3-putts this week,” said Rohanna. “I’m hitting the ball well. My driver feels great and I’m sticking my wedges close.”
After a couple months off from competitive golf, Rohanna is ready to get going in 2017.
“It feels good to be back in competition mode and back out on the course again,” said Rohanna.
