Bowlby Library announces November events
Eva K. Bowlby Public Library recently announced a schedule of events for November.
n The library will be closed Friday, Nov. 10, for Veteran’s Day, and Nov. 23 and 24 for Thanksgiving.
n The Friends of the Eva K. Bowlby Public Library is sponsoring an Initial Outfitters fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8. Plan to stop by the library during the afternoon and peruse the fall/winter 2017 collection of handcrafted and personalized jewelry, bags, scarves and more.
n A creative crafting for adults class will be held at 5 p.m. Nov. 2. This month’s project will be wooden door tags. Cost for materials is $20. Seating is limited so register early by calling the library at 724-627-9776.
n The library’s literacy department is offering free S.A.T. preparation classes to high school students in Greene County. The classes will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Nov. 4, 11 and 18. Students will be guided through study portions of the English, math and the writing sections of the test. Bring a scientific calculator as well as a bag lunch. Pre-registration is required. n The Bowlby Rocks! Program, an adventure in rock painting, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 4. Bring two clean rocks and a few Thanksgiving ideas to paint. Reserve your spot by calling the library.
n The children’s department will offer Wild Kratts Story Time classes on Nov. 4, focusing on the Fantastic Fox, and Nov. 18, focusing on Darling Deer. Kids and their parents/caregivers can join us for stories, snacks, crafts and a show. Please call the children’s department to register.
n The library, in partnership with the Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation, is offering free American Red Cross adult, child and infant CPR certification training from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6.
n The children’s department is offering children a chance to be creative at the Library Lego Club. The library provides the Legos, you provide the imagination. Drop into the library at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Nov. 4 and Nov. 18.
n International Games Day will be celebrated from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 17. There will be old-fashioned game playing for every member of the family, plus the ninth annual turkey bowling contest.
n The library’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is inviting all local teenagers to their After-After Hours from 8 to 10 p.m. Nov. 17. There is a suggested $2 donation at the door. Call the library at 724-627-9776 to pre-register.
n The first Turkey Trot, a 5K run/walk and 1K children’s fun run, will be held Nov. 18 to raise money to fulfill the library’s mission to provide through the use of traditional and emerging technologies, materials and services for community residents of all ages.” The event will begin at the library’s gazebo. The 1K children’s fun run, “The Wobble Gobble,” will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three male and female walker/runner in each age category. Each participant will receive a race T-shirt. Children will receive a copy of the book, “The Great Turkey Race,” by Steve Metzger, who will be visiting the library that day for a meet and greet with the public. Registration fees are $15 for children’s fun run ($20 on day of race); $25 for 5K walker and runner ($30 on race day). n Movie night is every Wednesday evening. Here is the list of scheduled movies: Nov. 1 — “Pure Country: Pure Heart;” Nov 8 — “Disney’s Cars 3;” Nov. 15 — “Megan Leavey;” Nov. 22, “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving;” and Nov. 29 — “Gifted.” Starting time for movies is 6 p.m. unless noted otherwise. Free popcorn and beverage for those who attend. Call the library to reserve your seats.
n The library’s book club will meet at noon Nov. 13 to discuss “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann. New members are encouraged to attend.
n The library will hold its Holiday Open House from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6. There will be a cookie walk, cookie raffle, children’s toy basket raffle, live music, holiday story time and pictures with Santa.
n T.O.P.S. — Taking Off Pounds Sensibly — is a weight management support group that meets every Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. New members are always welcome.
n “Color Outside the Lines” is a program for adults who may be interested in the latest craze of adult coloring books. The library will provide coloring sheets and supplies to get you started. The program is held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.
