Rachel Rohanna managed to stay away from the big score in Friday’s opening round to finish the first day in the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout at 5-under 67.

The Waynesburg Central graduate wasn’t as fortunate in Saturday’s second round, closing with a 2-over 74 in a round that included a double bogey-6.

Rohanna was tied with Dottie Ardina after the first round, but slid down into a tie in fourth place at 3-under 141. Ardina retained the top spot on the leaderboard by shooting another 5-under 67.

Rohanna opened on No. 1 and went out with a 1-over 37. She started the second round with a birdie, but followed with a pair of bogeys.

Rohanna made the turn with a double bogey on No. 10.

“Two tough bunker shots,” Rohanna said of what led to the double bogey. “You just can’t miss in certain places in this course and that’s what I did there.”

Rohanna quickly regained the lost strokes with back-to-back birdies. She closed the second round with two bogeys and a birdie in her final five holes to come back in 1-over 37.

“I had a couple of putts that didn’t fall and a couple of shots that cost me, but otherwise, not bad,” Rohanna said of her play in the second round.

Rohanna remains confident she can make a run at first place in Sunday’s final round.

“Yes, there’s a 65 out there,” said Rohanna.
