Jack V. Smith, Jr.
Jack V. Smith, Jr., 71, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his home in Myrtle Beach, with his loving family by his side, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on December 2, 1946 in Waynesburg, to the late Jack Vincent Smith, Sr. and Helen Hoy Smith.
Along with his parents, Jack is preceded in passing by his sister, Kathy Jane Smith and his niece, Kelly Sonneborn.
Following his honorable discharge from the United States National Guard in August of 1972, Jack went on to spend his entire working life in the insurance industry, having retired from the Baily Agency in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
In his younger days, he was involved with coaching his son’s youth sports in baseball and football. He was also an avid hunter and loved fishing from the Springmaid Pier. Jack loved watching all sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pens & Pirates. He also enjoyed college sports. Jack loved playing golf, traveling and the ocean, but most of all, he loved his family.
Left to cherish Jack’s memory, is his beloved wife, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year, Jacqueline “Jackie” P. Smith, of Myrtle Beach.
Also surviving are his children, Jessica Smith Watts and her husband, Tom, of Delaware, Ohio and Jeremy Smith of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, Taylor, Emma, Lucas, and Jacob Watts, Noah, Cooper and Tanner Smith; one brother, George William Smith and his wife, Leslie, of Morgantown, West Virginia; three sisters, Diana Knight of Myrtle Beach, Linda Sonneborn and her husband, Bob, of Waynesburg and Lisa Pollock and Roger Lasko, of Carmichaels; a brother-in-law, Walter “Wally” Petros and his wife, Janice; his beloved fur-baby, Allie, who he loved dearly; as well as many nieces and nephews, a large, loving, extended family, supportive friends and neighbors.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 W. High St., Waynesburg, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. with Rev. David S. Lake officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name, may be made to St. Jude Cancer Research, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
