3 area boys to play in Roundball Classic
With the WPIAL spring season in full swing, let’s take a look at some of the other happenings around high school athletics in the area.
Three local athletes will showcase their skills on the high school basketball court later this month in the annual Roundball Classic at Geneva College on April 20 and 21.
Waynesburg Central’s Darton McIntire and Jefferson-Morgan’s DL Garrett and Jalen Torres will play for their respective squads in the all-star games.
All three are seniors who went over 1,000 career points this season.
There will be a total of six all-star games that will feature the best seniors (boys and girls) of the WPIAL and District 10.
Garrett and Torres will lead the WPIAL Class 2-A/City League squad this year against the District 10 boys on April 20 at 9 p.m.
McIntire will play for the WPIAL Class 4-A team vs. the WPIAL Class 3-A/1-A squads on April 21 at 6 p.m.

Speaking of Mr. McIntire, the sensational senior guard has committed to continuing his academic and basketball futures at Rochester Institute of Technology on a full NROTC Marine Option Scholarship with the hopes of becoming a USMC Officer.
McIntire had a stellar senior campaign for the Raiders, averaging 26.1 points per game (third best in all classifications in the WPIAL) and setting the school record for points in a career with 1,541.

Seton Hill University will be home to the 2018 WPIAL Softball Championship this spring.
The softball field at California University of Pa, which has hosted the softball finals for a number of years, is under construction and all six title games will be moved on the home of the Lady Griffins.
The softball finals are tentatively set for May 30 and 31 (Thursday and Friday).
A Greene County team has reached the softball finals for three straight years. Jefferson-Morgan ended its emotional run with a championship in 2015, while West Greene has showcased its dominance on the diamond with back-to-back Class A titles.

I know this is a hard question to pose, but let me take a crack at it.
I always like doing “Where Are They Now” type stories and I’m always interested in seeing how kids that I covered in high school do at the next level on the college athletics stage.
The only problem is that it’s very tough to catch up on everyone with so many players in action this spring.
So what I am asking of you (fearless readers), is to submit a name and college of a former high school star that is currently playing baseball, softball or track this spring.
You can submit those names to me on twitter (@amb7445) or by email (amb7445@hotmail.com). I’m going to try to at least do a story or a column about a couple of those athletes over the next couple of weeks. Like always, thank you for all of your help!

The Greene County Church Dartball League wrapped up its 72nd season with a banquet and awards ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Waynesburg last Monday.
For the past six years, I have been involved in the league and it has been truly an awesome experience (my team finished second in the regular season, but we lost in the semifinals…ugh).
Every Monday night between the months of September and April, we throw darts and share a ton of laughs, stories and fellowship. I feel like this league has been great for my church and our church members.
This league is, seriously, for everyone, men, women and children.
In the league this year, our youngest player was eight-years old and our oldest player was around 80. With 22 teams in the league this season, you really get to know every part of Greene County and meet new people every Monday.
I strongly encourage if there are any Greene County churches out there interested in joining or just maybe people interested in joining an existing team, please contact the league for more information: website (gcdartball.50webs.com), email (greenedartball@gmail.com) or Facebook (Facebook.com/groups/GreeneDartball).
The league is incredibly well-organized and, like I said before, it’s a ton of fun!
