Ruth Bell Keener, 82, of Washington, formerly of Waynesburg, died at 12:08 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, in the Washington Hospital in Washington.

She was born Tuesday, August 27, 1935 in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Robert Emerson Bell and Florence Hormell Bell.

Mrs. Keener was a member of the Fairhill Manor Christian Church in Washington. When her health permitted she enjoyed playing the piano and organ. For over 30 years she was the pianist and organist for the First Christian Church in Waynesburg.

She always enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and mall walking.

She worked as a substitute teacher for Central Greene School District for many years and also worked at the YWCA in Washington for several years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Robert M. Keener, whom she married on June 5, 1954, died November 30, 2008.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen Keener and Scott E. Keener, both of Washington; one granddaughter, Hannah Gray; one sister, Virginia Bell Cross, of Spencer, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are one sister, Evalyn Black and one brother Robert Emerson Bell.

Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 with Pastor Michael Lehman officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
