Greyhounds score 10 in first inning for 15-0 win

Monessen scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning Monday afternoon and cruised to a 15-0 Section 1-A win at Mapletown called after three innings.

Cory Fleming blasted a grand slam and legged out a triple for the Greyhounds. Fleming scored three runs and had six RBI. Nick Baker, Nate Lynch and Mrcus Tansmore all doubled for Monessen (6-3, 7-5).

Monessen had only six hits, but benefited from eight walks and four Mapletown errors.

Baker was supposed to start for the Greyhounds, but gave way to Lynch before he even threw a pitch. Lynch struck out two and walked one

Ethan Carter took the loss. Ryan Carter had a single in the bottom of the second inning for the Maples’ lone hit.

Mapletown slips to 2-8 in the section and 2-10 overall.
