The annual Greene County Fair opened to the public on Monday, kicking off with FFA and 4-H shows all day then ending with farm stock tractor pulls. As the festivities began, fair goers were introduced to this year’s royalty.

The 2018 fair queen is Madison Kovach, daughter of Jeffrey and Renee Kovach, of Jefferson.

She succeeds Julie Policz, the 17-year-old daughter of Zora and Wyatt Policz, of Jefferson.

Kovach, 16, is a junior at Jefferson-Morgan High School where she plays varsity volleyball and is a member of Leo club, drama club, art club and library club. She is also a mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the secretary for Greene County’s rabbit club and a member of the Greene County horse and pony club.

After graduating, she plans to study elementary education at The College of Charleston.

The festivities throughout the week included the usual such as tractor pulls, truck pulls, 4-H shows and FFA shows. This year, however, there were two demolition derbies. One was on Wednesday and the other on Friday.

In addition to the derbies, entertainment included petting zoos, wood carving demonstrations, leather crafts for the children and a performance by the Chris Higbee Band.

Tickets cost $8 and that included parking, rides, exhibits, animals and general admission to the entertainment.
