Coal Queen candidates announced
This year marks the 65th annual Bituminous Coal Pageant where 10 young women will compete for the crown.
This year’s pageant is on Sunday, Aug. 19, and begins at 7 p.m. at the Carmichaels Area High School and doors open at 6 p.m.
Admission is $10. The Coal Show will run from Aug. 18 through 25.
The candidates are preceeded by Kacey Furlong, the 17-year-old daughter of David and Roxie Furlong of Brownsville.
Furlong used her time as coal queen to judge contests at last year’s festival and continue the tradition of touring a coal mine.
She also spoke during the Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner, passed out trophies during the Carmichael’s winter basketball tournament and organized a Toys-for-Tots drive within her school district.
The candidates for this year are as follows:
Sarah Rose Blackstone, the 17-year-old daughter of Christy Chuey and Wilbert Blackstone of Uniontown.
Raegan Paige Crofcheck, the 17-year-old daughter of Drew Crofcheck and Barbara Koffler Crofcheck of Uniontown.
Sara Ann Hornick, 18-year-old daughter of Stacey Hornick and step-father Gary McCormick of Bobtown.
Holly Lesko, the 17-year-old daughter of Donna and Scott Lesko of Smithfield.
Destinie Olesko, the 17-year-old daughter of John and Bonnie Olesko of Brownsville.
Joelle Pahanish, the 16-year-old daughter of Tammy and Dave Thistlethwaite of Jefferson and Kristin and Dave Pahanish of Nashville, Tennessee.
Micaela Ricco, the 17 year old daughter of Tom and Carrie Ricco, of Carmichaels.
Abigail Claire Rocks, the 17-year-old daughter of Thomas and Dana Rocks of New Salem.
Eden Rogers, the 17-year-old daughter of Jason and Shelly Rogers of Sycamore.
Lauren Zelnis, the 17-year-old daughter of Bill and Kristen Zelnis of Centerville.
