Waynesburg women cruise to 82-62 victory

The Waynesburg men’s and women’s basketball teams had a good day Saturday afternoon by sweeping past visiting Geneva in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.

The women defeated Geneva, 82-62, while the Yellow Jacket men secured an 86-61 victory.

The women led throughout the game, holding quarter leads of 18-13, 39-32 and 58-43.

Five Yellow Jackets finished in double figures, led by Addy Knetzer’s 21 points. Monica Starre scored 13. Rachel Eng and Mackenna Drazich had 11 points apiece, and Erin Joyce finished with 10.

The Waynesburg men led 37-33 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half with a 49-28 advantage.

The Yellow Jackets’ Matt Popeck led the way with a game-high 33 points. Jon Knabb added 21.

Connellsville graduate Jimmy Leichliter had a double-double for Geneva with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
