By For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Alan VanSickle drove in two runs with a double and a single and winning pitcher Kaine Frye also had two RBIs as Farmington defeated visiting Jefferson-Morgan, 4-1, to stay alive in the Fayette County American Legion baseball playoffs on Tuesday night.

Farmington was scheduled to play at Smithfield-Fairchance in the second-round of the losers bracket on Wednesday in the double elimination tournament.

Farmington (7-8) scored twice in the first inning against losing pitcher Gage Clark and that was enough as manager Rodney Frazee used four different pitchers who combined to allow just one run on five hits.

Frye had an RBI ground out and VanSickle followed with a run-scoring hit in the first.

Jefferson-Morgan cut the lead in half in the third on Clark’s RBI triple.

Farmington answered with two more runs in the bottom of the inning on Frye’s run-scoring triple and VanSickle’s RBI hit.

VanSickle and Trent Uphold each had two hits for Farmington. Wyatt Rishel singled and scored twice.

Ike Dean had a pair of singles for Jefferson-Morgan.

VanSickle started and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks, but had to be relieved by Kaine in the fourth.

Kaine finished the fourth and recorded two outs in the fifth to earn the win. John Harim got the final out of the fifth and pitched a scoreless sixth before giving way to Jeremy Saliba, who tossed a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Clark went the distance for J-M. He gave up four runs on eight hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. Dalton Riggenbach contributed a single, stolen base and sacrifice bunt for the visitors.

Jefferson-Morgan wraps up its season with a 4-14 overall record.
