Greene County Commissioners recently presented a donation to the Humane Society of Greene County. This is an annual donation to the animal shelter that is distributed through general fund money.

Michael Welsh, president of the Humane Society’s board of directors, said the shelter is deeply appreciative of the donation, which will be used to help pay for general operating costs. Welsh said there is currently an overpopulation of dogs and cats in need of loving families to adopt them.

The center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. The Humane Society is also currently selling their 2019 calendars as a fundraising initiative, and all proceeds will go to paying the shelter’s general expenses. Each calendar features a 3-number code that can be used for the Pa. Daily Lottery every day in 2019. The calendars are $30 each and are available for sale on the Humane Society’s website, www.greeneet.org, and at the shelter, which is located at 183 Jefferson Road in Waynesburg.
