Rohanna moves up leaderboard
Rachel Rohanna had a bogey-free round Friday to move up the leaderboard in the Symetra Tour Championship.
The Waynesburg Central graduate had four birdies in the second round for a two-day total of 5-under 139, moving up into a tie for 11th place.
Rohanna, the defending Symetra Tour Championship champion, tees off at 9:17 a.m. Saturday for the third round.
Rohanna said it’s been awhile since she carded a bogey-free round.
“I haven’t had one in awhile. They’re not easy to come by,” said Rohanna. “I didn’t have many opportunities to bogey today.
“I just missed a 17-footer on No. 17 and missed one on the 18th hole. I was making some good putts, too.”
Rohanna had two birdies on the front and two on the back, playing both sides in 2-under 34, although she felt Thursday’s opening round of 1-under was better.
“I felt I played better yesterday. I made a few more putts yesterday. I gave myself a few opportunities today,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna is currently on maternity leave, so her status for next year remains as it was for this season. However, a nice payday is still in the cards.
“Obviously, I haven’t made a cut since March,” said Rohanna. “I set myself up well for the weekend. I feel I can go even lower on Saturday and Sunday.
“I’m hitting the ball back to my old distance. That gives me shorter clubs to the green. That makes a 7-iron to a wedge into the green. That’s huge.”
Rohanna is hoping to catch some magic as she attempts to catch Pavarisa Yoktuan. Yoktuan retained the lead at 15-under 129.
“I’m still a bit rusty. I feel I can go real low on the weekend. I’d love to catch that number. I’ll play it hole-by-hole and hope for the best,” said Rohanna.
