Carmichaels' Matt Barrish watches as his putt on the eighth green at Allegheny Country Club during the WPIAL Class AA Individual Boys Golf Championship on Sept. 27. Barrish shot a 74 at Meadowink Golf Course on Tuesday, the second-lowest round of the day, to help the Mikes advance out of the WPIAL Boys Class AA semifinals with a third-place finish. Carmichaels competed in the team championship at Cedarbrook Golf Course for the first time in school history on Thursday.

The Carmichaels boys golf team clinched the Section 8-AA title outright in a 207-220 victory over Uniontown last Saturday morning at Carmichaels Golf Club, then wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a 206-229 non-section win over visiting Albert Gallatin on the same course Monday afternoon.

The Mikes end the season with an overall mark of 16-0, and await word for next week’s WPIAL team playoffs.

The Red Raiders (12-2 in section play) also qualified for the postseason.

Uniontown’s Danae Rugola shot an even-par 37 on the front nine to earn medalist honors in Saturday’s showdown. Sister Adena Rugola shot a one-over 38 to put the Red Raiders in good position, as Carmichaels’ No. 1 golfer Matt Barrish carded a 38 and teammate Taggart Shea also fired a 38 as the Mikes’ second golfer.

Carmichaels’ Ethan Greene and Uniontown’s Michael Mercadante both shot a 44 to give the Red Raiders a one-shot edge after three from each team were in the clubhouse.

Delaney Lohr’s 44 bested Nate Moody’s 46 to give the Mikes a one-shot advantage, and Carmichaels’ Remmey Lohr shot a 43 to Gage Brugger’s 55 to put the match away for the home team and coach Dave Briggs.

The Red Raiders’ Maddie Myers shot a 68 and the Mikes’ Bradley Walker carded a 51. Both scores weren’t used in the official team scoring.

Carmichaels earned at least a share of the section crown last Friday afternoon with a 206-266 victory against Brownsville.

Barrish and Shea shared medalist honors at 1-over 38. Delaney Lohr finished with 39. Greene (45) and Remmey Lohr (46) closed the scoring. Walker’s 47 was not used.

Lindsay Sethman had the low score for the Falcons with a 2-over 39. Dalton Mullen (44), E.J. Victor (46), Jake Defigio (59), and Jake Carnachan (78) rounded out the scoring.

Barrish closed out the regular season with an even-par 37 against the Colonials on Monday. Shea had a solid round for Carmichaels with a 39. Walker shot 42 and Delaney Lohr finished with a 43. Greene and Remmey Lohr both had 45.

The Colonials’ Aaron Fetzner returned to the course after suffering in injury in a soccer match to shoot 38 in his final high school match. Jarred Provance (44), Jacob Elias (45), Ethan Davis (51), and Matt Karpeal (51) closed out the scoring. Chase Valente’s 58 was not used.

The Mikes also defeated section foe Beth-Center last Wednesday as Barrish shot a 1-over 36 in a 197-263 victory at Chippewa Golf Course. Greene shot 39 against the Bulldogs. Shea finished with 40. The Lohr sisters and Walker all shot 41.

Genin King was the low man for the Bulldogs with a 45. Dylan Shashura (50), Noah Wible (51), Anthony Dellapenna (59), and Leonard Johns (58) also counted in the final score. Blake Shashura’s 59 was not used.
