Dr. Thomas Edward Tekavec
Dr. Thomas Edward Tekavec, age 52, of Morgantown, W. Va., died Friday, October 12, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born June 30, 1966 in Waynesburg, the son of Beverley Morton Dunlap and the late Edward Tekavec.
Tom graduated from Carmichaels High School in 1984, Indiana University in 1988 and earned his doctorate of Optometry from the PA College of Optometry in 1992.
He practiced at his office, Eye Care One, in Fairmont W. Va. and Sears Optical, in Morgantown for the past 25 years.
He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the farm with his friends and nephews. He was an avid hunter and shooter, winning numerous awards and competitions. His other favorite past time was watching his daughter, Sarah play softball from her recreation years, to college ball at Alderson Broaddus.
In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by his wife, Marianna, whom he married November 7, 1992.
Also surviving is his cherished daughter, Sarah at home. He is also survived by two siblings, John Tekavec, of Las Vegas, Nev. and Kimberly Bailey (Brian), of Raleigh N.C.; his father-in-law, Donald Yarish; three nephews, Ian Bailey, Casey Bailey and Gunnar Calvert; one niece, Arianna Calvert and his dearest friend, Ken Shipley.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward; stepfather, Chuck Dunlap; his grandparents, Elizabeth and Harold Morton and Stella and Matthew Tekavec and mother-in-law, Joan Yarish.
Services are private under the direction of the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Ave., Carmichaels. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
