Lady Raiders’ Shriver earns top honor on H-S girls track team

Waynesburg Central’s Taylor Shriver was the named the Class AA Most Outstanding Field Performer on the 2019 Herald-Standard Girls All-Area Track & Field Team. The team is listed below with Greene County athletes in bold:

3,200 relay: Elizabeth Forward.

Honorable mention: Bentworth, Belle Vernon, Connellsville.

100 high hurdles: Makayla Boda, California.

Honorable mention: Neveah Hamborsky, Connellsville; Payton Chester, Laurel Highlands.

100: Skye Eicher, Frazier.

NOTES: Local girls won 25 WPIAL medals and five more at the PIAA meet including Waynesburg Central’s Taylor Shriver with a bronze in the pole vault. … Shriver broke for the WPIAL mark in the pole vault of 12-6 set by former Waynesburg great Marissa Kalsey in 2012, clearing 12-7 for the top spot on the awards stand. The sophomore hit a vault of 12 feet to share third place in the PIAA meet. … Brownsville and Waynesburg Central shared team medal honors with four WPIAL and one PIAA medal apiece. Belle Vernon and Elizabeth Forward both had a total of four medals. California and Frazier had combined totals of three medals, Southmoreland girls won a pair, and West Greene, Beth-Center, Mount Pleasant and Connellsville each had one.
