Maples fall to visiting GCC, 47-27
Greensburg Central Catholic scored all the points it needed in the first half Friday night as the visiting Centurions returned home from Mapletown with a 47-27 non-conference victory.
The Centurions (6-1) scored 28 points in the first quarter on Ben LaCarte’s 38-yard interception return, Luke Mazoweicki’s 2-yard run, and a pair of touchdown passes.
Trailing 34-0 in the third quarter, the Maples (1-6) finally got on the scoreboard on Max Vanata’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Clay Menear.
Mapletown’s Landon Stevenson scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 8 and 5 yards, plus a 55-yard scoring pass from Vanata.
Vanata completed 11-of-22 passes for 138 yards and one interception. Stevenson caught five passes for 77 yards and carried the ball 25 times for 161 yards rushing. He also kicked an extra point.
The Maples’ Cohen Stout also topped 100 yards rushing with 101 on 14 carries.
