By For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Bailey Jones rushed for 224 yards and a touchdown and Kevin Kelly added three TDs as visiting Carmichaels built a 27-0 halftime lead then held off a Union comeback to secure a 27-18 win in a non-conference football clash last Friday night.

The Mikes used a ball-control offense and stout defense to dominate the first half, limiting the Scotties to just 10 offensive plays and one first down over the first two quarters.

Kelly, who ran for 74 yards and added 47 passing yards, scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in the first quarter with Michael Robison adding the extra points for an early 14-0 advantage.

Jones scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter and Kelly added a third 1-yard plunge later in the half for coach Ryan Krull’s Mikes (2-5).

Union (3-5) pulled within 27-12 on Tyler Benedict-to-Michael Flowers touchdown passes of 78 and 26 yards in the third quarter. Benedict added a 9-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, but the Scotties could get no closer.

Benedict completed 12 off 22 passes for 294 yards. The Mikes limited Union to just 26 yards on the ground.

Robison had one reception for 39 yards for Carmichaels, which returns to Century Conference play next week when it hosts Frazier.
